Photo competition winners
Twenty-five young British Christians are at the end of a year they will never forget. They’ve laughed, wept and conquered their fears. They’ve given and received a great deal. They’ve grown in their faith and drawn closer to God.
In all of these experiences, Action Teamers captured on camera something of what they were living through. The top ten images are shown here, in the fourth annual BMS/The Baptist Times photo competition.
1st place: Ray of light
Kiswa community nursery and primary school is run by Kiswa Baptist Church in Kampala. Rita, the girl in the photo, passed her exams with full marks but will be unable to continue with her education, either due to financial difficulties or because she will be forced to get married. The ray of light is from all the dust spread as the children sweep up at the end of the day.

2nd place: Festival
At Anusaran’s village school Holi, the Hindu festival of colours, is celebrated with lots of fun and laughter.
Children gather handfuls of coloured powder paint to throw over each other. resulting in many colourful and happy children! Taken by Hannah Burfitt, Delhi Action Team
3rd place: Football at dusk
A football game in Kinoni village. Locals asked us to join in but they soon realised that we weren’t used to the heat or the uneven surface – and weren’t that good! As the sun went down, I got a chance to photograph the game.

Top ten qualifiers:
On a boat
Whilst it looks like this guy is fishing he is actually using his little boat to clean a larger vessel. He was drifting away from the big boat when we took the photo.

Up close
When I went into the schools in Uganda and pulled out my camera the students would flock round to get in the photo and see my camera. One boy decided to help me by putting the lens cap back on while I was taking a picture.

Graffiti
This was a piece of graffiti about life drawn near New Market in Kolkata. It was really poignant because there was a person sleeping on the street. It was also in English though most of the city’s graffiti is in Bengali.

Peeping through
Three boys who attend Kiswa community nursery and primary school in Kampala, which is made quite haphazardly with wooden planks and a corrugated iron roof.

Paper planes
This is our last day teaching at Hatibagan school where we made paper airplanes with the children. We drew Indian flags and the children coloured in the planes.

Making friends
This girl had never seen a white person before and was terrified of us! She would often just cry and run away when we approached her. This is Tim trying to show her that we aren't that scary or different and trying to get down to her level, while she desperately attempts to pretend he isn’t there.

Geography lesson
This is Assa, who comes from a local slum in Dapa to Hatibagan mobile school, with her older sister. The photo was taken in a lesson where the children learnt about where we were from and she pointed out the journey from England to India.
